LIMPOPO EXCEEDS TARGET SET FOR VACCINATION OF BASIC EDUCATION STAFF

Limpopo has managed to vaccinate 73 609 educators and support staff, thus exceeding the set target of 61 572. The target of 61 572 people was for educators, administration and support staff appointed by the Limpopo Department of Education, educators appointed by School Governing Bodies (SGB), and educators in the independent schools sector.

The number of staff additional to the set target was catered for by additional doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine that were offered by the Department of Health following a strong demand for the vaccine in days towards the end of the basic education sector's vaccination drive. Those vaccinated now include food handlers, janitors and support staff from independent schools.

Limpopo MEC for Education, Polly Boshielo has expressed appreciation at how the vaccination process for the basic education sector has unfolded in the province. "We are elated by the positive response we have seen from our educators and support staff. Many braved cold mornings and long queues to get their jabs, and this to me  demonstrates the  commitment they have towards normalisation of the sector. Thank you for heeding the call to drop all, and vaccinate.

This achievement would have not been possible without the tireless efforts of the executive management team in our head office, coupled with district and circuit officials and the departmental health and safety committee ,who saw to it that our workforce is notified and scheduled accordingly to nearby vaccination sites. My appreciation also goes out to the provincial Department of Health for their commitment to seeing this project of vaccination of the sector through. Thank you team Limpopo!

We are happy at the opportunity that has been opened for the 35 to 49 year olds to join other older age groups for mass vaccination. This will surely cater for some of our staff members who could not be catered for in our vaccination drive in the past few days", said MEC Boshielo.
