DROP ALL, AND VACCINATE!EDUCATORS AND STAFF STILL URGED TO GET VACCINATED

Polokwane - The Limpopo Department of Education successfully launched the rollout programme for vaccination of educators and support staff in the province on 25 June 2021. The province has thus far managed to vaccinate 46 259 educators and support staff at 37 vaccination sites.

Categories of educators and staff eligible to receive vaccines include educators, administration and support staff appointed by the Department, educators appointed by School Governing Bodies (SGB), and educators in the independent schools sector. Scheduling of where and when staff members should present themselves for vaccination is done through district and circuit offices of the Department of Education. Information on allocated time slots and vaccination sites is then sent to schools for communication to staff

MEC Boshielo got her single dose jab of Johnson & Johnson vaccine at the Pietersburg hospital site, which was administered by MEC Dr Ramathuba of the Department of Health.

In launching the drive, MEC Boshielo explained that educators are frontline workers and they must be on the priority list. “The vaccination of our educators is going on a high drive and one can see that our educators are all out in the drive. We are happy our educators are responding very well. The pandemic has impacted almost every corner of our lives and therefore we feel obliged to continue advocating for their vaccination because education is critically being disrupted by this pandemic”.said MEC Boshielo emphasising the importance of vaccination to educators.

The two MECs, Boshielo and Ramathuba continued advocating for the drive by monitoring the Covid-19 vaccination sites at Nkhensani hospital in Giyani and William Kgatla Primary school at Ga-Kgapane in Mopani East and West district respectively  on the 2 July 2021. Both the MECs were extremely delighted to witness basic education staff coming in droves to be vaccinated
