Basic Education Geared Up to Full reopening of Schools

Boyne - Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga and MEC Polly Boshielo visited schools in Capricorn South District to monitor and assess the state of readiness for the full return of all primary school learners. The two began their programme by visiting Makgoka Secondary School and then Sione Primary School in Mankweng Circuit to get an update on readiness and the support needed to assist schools.

The Minister engaged with the School Governing Bodies (SGBs), School Management Teams (SMTs) and importantly encouraged Grade 12 learners to work hard and achieve the schools’ set target of 85% in the current academic year. She also handed out masks to the learners to assist them in the fight against Covid-19 especially as the third wave is looming.

“Learners are currently roaming the streets which puts them at more risk of being infected. They are safer in the school premises as the Covid-19 regulations are being implemented” said Motshekga.

Plans for vaccination roll out programme are in place to vaccinate all educators and support staff in schools from
