ACCOUNTABILITY SESSIONS FOR UNDER PERFORMING DISTRICTS, CIRCUITS AND SCHOOLS GET UNDERWAY

Following the announcements of results nationally and provincially respectively last week, the Limpopo MEC for Education, Polly Boshielo will get underway with accountability sessions for districts, circuits and schools that under performed in the 2020 National Senior Certificate examinations . The sessions are scheduled to start today, 01 March 2021.

The province achieved 68.2 percent provincial pass rate and is now ranked number 7 nationally, two places above where it was in 2019. Three districts out of ten districts performed below 65 percent and it is in this regard that there is an urgent need, right in the beginning of the school year to engage on among other things, reasons for underperformance, interventions that were implemented and the strategies to be employed to improve results and get out of underperformance.

"We have to understand their challenges directly so that we can bring about the necessary targeted interventions. All districts, circuits and schools must pull their weight and contribute to the provincial pass rate. We have to appropriate the necessary support throughout the academic year under the current circumstances of Covid-19” said MEC Boshielo.

These sessions will also include top 5 principals of best performing schools per district, who will share best practices with all schools that underperformed. This is meant to sharpen strategies that will see schools across the province performing as required.
