MEC BOSHIELO SHOCKED BY THE SENSELESS KILLING OF A GRADE 12 LEARNER
The MEC for Education, Polly Boshielo has expressed dismay at the reported killing of a grade 12 female learner from Ebenezer High School in Mokopane. The learner died on 2 September 2020. Preliminary reports suggest that the learner might have been a victim of gender-based violence.
She was an exceptional performer in Agricultural Sciences and due to start with the National Senior Certificate preparatory examinations next week.
“Our deepest condolences go out to her family, friends and the school community. We pray that they be granted strength needed to get through this difficult time.
A young and promising life taken away prematurely is enough reason for us to declare war on such ruthless acts and brace ourselves to fight like we have never. It is enough for us to stand together and say no more! We call on law enforcement authorities to spare no effort applying the full might of the law to harshly deal with those behind this cruel act,” said MEC Boshielo.
The department will work with the Mayor of Mogalakwena municipality and other provincial government departments in providing support to the family and members of the school community through psycho social services, raising awareness on gender-based violence and improving safety in our communities.
